Institut Charles Sadron

The Charles Sadron Institute is a CNRS laboratory (UPR22), associated with the University of Strasbourg, which was created in 1954 to support the nascent development of the polymer industry at the level of fundamental research.

Today located on the Cronenbourg Campus, this multidisciplinary institute, at the interface of chemistry and physics of materials, is composed of

  • 51 Researchers and Lecturers,
  • 42 Engineers, technicians and administrative staff,
  • and about 100 PhD students, post-docs, associate researchers and interns.

The institute is structured in 5 general services and 7 research teams whose fields of competence and scientific expertise are explained in the field "teams", as well as general services, in particular an important service of characterization of polymers open to external requests.

Our current main lines of research focus on:

  • Polymer chemistry and engineering
  • Polyelectrolytes
  • Polymers at interfaces
  • Molecular and supramolecular self-assembly
  • Mixed and nanocomposite systems
  • Biomaterials and complexes of therapeutic interest.

This research is based on the broad spectrum of scientific and technical skills brought together in the Alsace Materials and Nanosciences Cluster, and in the International Center for Frontier Research in Chemistry, created in Strasbourg in 2007.
