(Z)-4-arylidene-5(4H)-oxazolones: molecular platforms with fascinating photoproperties
Summary: Unsaturated 4-arylidene-5(4H)-oxazolones are compounds known from the end of the 19th century. Often considered as valuable synthetic precursors or intermediates in preparative organic chemistry, their organometallic chemistry was unknown until 2005. Three different aspects of organopalladium complexes from oxazolones will be shown here: (1) the incorporation of the Pd to the oxazolone scaffold through C-H activation and the plausible catalytic functionalization; (2) the amplification of the fluorescence of oxazolones achieved by Pd-intramolecular lock; (3) the unprecedented fully stereoselective photochemical reactivity of the palladated oxazolones to afford diaminotruxillic cyclobutanes.
